About the author:Benjamin Barnes is currently a Timber Framer with Old School Builders. He was recently a steeplejack and historic restoration foreman for the Yankee Steeplejack Co. of Concord, MA. He has restored nine steeples around Massachusettes. He has also been central to many other types of restoration projects including: The Orchard House, Concord, MA - circa 1680-1700 - the birthplace of Louisa May Alcott and a year round museum, recipient of a Save America’s Treasures grant. The Artemas Ward Museum , Shrewsbury, MA – 1726 – Harvard owned museum was once a dairy farm belonging to a judge and Revolutionary War General Trinity Church, Copley Sq., Boston, MA - 187? – greatest work of renowned architect, Henry Hobson Richardson Southeast Lighthouse, Block Island, RI – 1873 – an imposing Gothic brick lighthouse and tower perched an eroding bluff over the Atlantic Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA – More copper and slate than you can shake a stick at The School of Philosophy, Concord, MA – 187? – Bronson Alcott’s barn and home to his school Phillips Academy Carillon Tower, Andover, MA – housing fifty bells, the tower commemorates a speech on the site by George Washington The Modern Theatre, Boston, MA - 185?, - in Boston’s old theatre district, condemned building was saved from demolition by anonymous donor.
