Attach photos of barns in need to give us all a better sense of the scale of the crisis.  Any barns, stables, or outbuildings, whether freestanding or attached to other structures, which require work ranging from expected upkeep to removal from a site and replacement at a more hospitable location, will qualify to be part of the index.  The location of the structure and the date of the photo should be given, and additional information such as the owners name (with permission), original date or builder, uses, or a verbal description of conditions (if helpful), will be appreciated.

The Historic Barn Index will have multiple purposes:

  1. Create a visual aid to accompany our voice.   If the index grows large enough, it will help even the most cold blooded naysayer understand the size of the crisis.  Let’s take this to Montpelier. . . or D.C.?
  1. Document every barn (or even ruins of them) before its impossible.  It’s the least we can do.
  1. Create interest in the larger community.  The longer a new viewer can enjoy our site, the more likely they might donate a couple of bucks.
